Shishamo is a small fish known in Dutch as lodde (capelin), traditionally eaten from head to tail. What makes shishamo special is that it is eaten when filled with roe, giving the fish a rich, pronounced flavor. In Japan, shishamo is usually grilled and served as a snack, often with a glass of sake or beer. It is also perfect on the barbecue during summer.
