Aji tataki (Horse Mackerel Tartare)

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 150 g horse mackerel fillet, thinly sliced
  • ½ spring onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 40 ml soy sauce
  • Grated daikon, shiso leaves, and shiso cress, for garnish

Preparation

  1. Bring the mirin to a boil in a small saucepan. Let it boil for about 10 seconds to evaporate the alcohol. Then let it cool completely.
  2. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients (except the garnish). Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the fridge for 15 minutes.
  3. Arrange the grated daikon, shiso leaves, and shiso cress on two plates. Place the marinated horse mackerel sashimi on top.
